What's the best way to repair damaged drywall?

My husband and I have (not so gracefully) removed wallpaper in our kitchen. What a nightmare I might add. Anyway, we have some spots on the leftover drywall that have been damaged. Also, there appears to be some water damage above the sink. Any advice on how to fix this before we paint it? Thanks!
