Horribly confused in need of help!!?

I'm a new in the dating scene. I've noticed that people often want a rough estimate of what you are (femme, butch, etc.). The problem is I thought I knew what femme was but now I'm a bit confused. I've read a few people who said that almost no one on The L Word was all that feminine when I thought almost all (except for Shane and Max of course) were. That leaves me confused as to what I am. It would be great if someone could give me examples of different qualifications of what exactly femme and butch (and anywhere in the middle) would be considered. You can use any famous people. No need to stick just to the ones on The L Word. Thanks in advance.
